Fly & Spin Fishing Experience
Belize Lodge & Excursions (BLE) offers fly and spin fishing expeditions from both our Moho Cay Lodge and Jungle Camp locations. Moho Cay is a remote and private island and the only lodge situated within the Port Honduras Marine Reserve (PHMR) of Southern Belize. This exclusive location puts anglers right in the middle of the prime fishing grounds while staying in total comfort and luxury at our beautiful tropical island property.
BLE's highly trained guides specialize in the "Big Three" bonefish, tarpon and permit and know the reserve intimately. The waters right off your cabins veranda at Moho are a prime spot for bonefish, jack and snapper.

There is also great fishing from our Jungle Camp property, which is located inland on the Golden Stream. Large groups of snook travel up river into fresh and brackish waters, spending months at a time between the coast and Jungle Camp. The river widens a few miles from the mouth and large numbers of big tarpon can also be found for about 5 months of the year, smaller ones year round.
Most anglers' visit for the world-class permit fishing, however the marine reserve and protected areas around Moho Cay Lodge is one of the few destinations on earth with healthy populations of the "Big Three". Anglers have a chance at the "Grand Slam," catching bonefish, tarpon and permit, on a catch-and-release basis only. PHMR is a collection of 130 small cays, with miles of mangrove coastline and four major rivers that empty into the marine reserve. Huge lagoons, connecting inlets, and waterways, and the cays all make for a great fishing experience.

Our fishing expeditions are fully inclusive of qualified and extremely knowledgeable local fishing guides, use of our specialized "Yamaha Flats Boat" with electric trolling motors and casting platform, refreshments and use of a full selection of the top rated rods, reels & tackle. Of course, bring your own gear if you like, we offer flies and light tackle at the lodge shops.
BLE's most frequently sought-after species:
- Permit: The flats, lagoons and river channels within the PHMR are among the best permit fisheries in the world. The migration begins in February and ends in November; the largest fish are found between March and May.
- Tarpon: Large tarpon are migratory, and found in the waters within the PHMR from May through September. Smaller tarpon, fewer than twenty pounds, can be found in the mangroves and brackish estuaries, creeks and lagoons year-round.

Right off the beach at Moho Cay
- Bonefish: The local flats, lagoons and river mouths attract shrimp and, in turn, hungry bonefish from April to November. The largest migratory fish are generally found in October.
- Snook: Coastal marine and brackish mangroves offer the best fishing from November through March when snook move into shallower water in search of warmer temperatures and up rivers into freshwater even past Jungle Camp.
- Jack: Thriving in the area since the 1995 commercial net ban, large schools of jacks are found in the shallow flats and lagoons within the PHMR from February through November.
- Snapper: This coveted species is found year-round in the sandy areas around mangroves, lagoons and river basins.

The Trans Habitat Experience
BLE offers a great fishing adventure but also affords you and your family the opportunity to combine fishing with a truly "Trans Habitat Experience". Try our 7-Night All-Inclusive Expedition Package visiting all three of our properties (Ballum Na, Jungle Camp & Moho Cay Lodge). Fly from Belize City International Airport on one of four scheduled flights a day to our private airstrip at Indian Creek.
Great for the entire family!
Spend the first 2 nights of your expedition at Ballum Na, sleep next to the jaguars, visit ancient Maya sites with local Mayan guides, take a caving expedition, see the wildlife center and hike or bike our miles of trails within the Boden Creek Ecological Preserve.

Departing Ballum Na, head down the Golden Stream for the 2-3 hour kayak or canoe journey deep into the forest to Jungle Camp located in the middle of a 60,000-acre private reserve network. There are some great freshwater fishing spots along the way. While at Jungle Camp, go out on the river via our electric canoes in the early morning and late afternoon, great time for birding, watch for primates, tapir and to throw out a line. Explore the jungle on local trails; ascend into the upper canopy of a giant Ceiba tree.
From Jungle Camp head to Moho Cay for great fishing, white sand beaches and palm trees, as well as a trip to the Snake Cay group and to the outer Belize Barrier Reef for some of the best snorkeling in the Country.
