Day 2
Lamanai Archaeological Site
Spend the morning touring the ancient central core of Lamanai the longest occupied of any Maya sites in Belize. Enormous masks cut from limestone blocks, adorned with a headdress shaped like a crocodile, decorate the Masked Temple. Near the center of the ceremonial zone, Lord Smoking Shell built a massive temple rising 33 meters above the river bank. The largest ballcourt marker ever found sits in one of the smallest playing areas. In the late afternoon take a canoe trip out onto the lagoon and a night wildlife watch.

Day 3
Belize Zoo & Xunantunich Archaeological Sites
Depart in the morning by air for Belize City and ground transfer to western Belize. Stop at the Belize Zoo in route. After lunch continue our journey on to Xunantunich. Castillo rises 42 meters and the summit was beautifully decorated with large stucco friezes representing the Central Axis of the Maya World and symbols associated with astronomy and ideology. After visiting the site a short ride to our overnight accommodations.

Day 4
Caracol Archaeological Sites
Travel deep into the jungle to the Archaeological Site of Caracol. A massive site with the construction of monumental architecture, hieroglyphic inscription and a complex social and religious system. The city covered an area of 100 square kilometers with a population of over 100,000. Causeways connected the city and its vast acropolis. Sky Palace is the tallest Maya construction in Belize. On the ride back, stop for a refreshing dip in Rio On Pools.

Day 5
Barton Creek Cave/Hummingbird Highway/ Southern Belize
Today we head south, but before leaving the western slope of the Maya Mountains, lets take a journey into the underworld of the ancient Maya. These caves are living museum where artifacts that were left inside by the ancient Maya can be viewed in their original contexts. Lunch. Day 6
Nim Li Punit, Lubanntun & Today’s Modern Maya Homeland
Spend a full day touring remote archaeological sites and visiting the largest indigenous Maya population in Belize. Nim Li Punit (Big Hat) a small but significant site with many carved monuments including the second largest in the Maya World. Lunch. Then off for a journey through traditional Maya Villages on the way to Lubanntun (Place of Fallen Stones), a major trading center for the region and in ancient time producing large quantities of Cacao (chocolate).

Day 7
Boden Creek Reserve, Wildlife Center & Golden Stream
Hike, bike or take a safari cart journey within our private 13,000-acre, Boden Creek Reserve, visit the Wildlife Center, including our jaguar exhibit, and rehabilitation facility. Lunch. Afternoon departures for Jungle Camp Lodge from Fig Tree Landing, where we begin the 3-hour canoe or kayak expedition deep into the jungle and down the pristine Golden Stream to Jungle Camp Lodge.

Day 8
Nature Hike, Canopy Platform & Night Safari
Early morning foot safari and visit to our jungle canopy platform for an exquisite view of the upper canopy’s flora and fauna. During the heat of the day relax in the middle of the jungle and enjoy the pristine surroundings. In the late afternoon take an electric boat safari on the river looking for the many birds and animals of the region. After dinner take a night walk and spotlight boat safari.

Day 9
Electric Boat Safari, Golden Stream & Port Honduras
Morning electric boat safari departs Jungle Camp Lodge for the coast. Travel down the unspoiled Golden Stream through a transition of habitats. Transfer to our marine boats for the 20 minute ride to Moho Cay Lodge, located within the Port Honduras Marine Reserve. Lunch. In the afternoon relax on our white sand beach. palm tree covered island, snorkel and swim, and have a cool tropical island drink.

Day 10
Marine Reserve & Coastal Maya Trading Site
In the morning our marine boats take you for a morning snorkel around the Snake Cay Group. Back to Moho Cay Lodge for lunch. In the afternoon visit Wild Cane Cay a major coastal trading center of the ancient Maya and explore the mangrove coastline for manatee and bird life.

Day 11
Moho Cay Lodge/Belize City International Airport
In the morning depart by boat for Punta Gorda and the 1-hour Tropic Air flight to Belize City International. (B)
