River Activities
The Golden Stream area is one of the last stretches of rare lowland tropical broadleaf forest connecting the Maya Mountains to the coast and a perfect location for a Belize eco-tour. The ultimate river experiences at Belize Lodge are the journeys to Jungle Camp Lodge and to Moho Cay Lodge, cruising with a Mayan guide down Golden Stream for 2-3 hours in your own kayak, a 20 foot Adirondack canoe or electric pontoon boat.
Other river activities include:
- River Canoeing and Kayaking
- Electric Pontoon Boat Safari
- Spotlight River Trip (Night Time)
- Bird Watching and Nature Viewing
- Swimming
River Canoeing and Kayaking
The fresh water lagoons around Indian Creek are excellent for canoe or kayak excursions. Full day tours explore the creek and lagoon system which empties into Blue Creek with pullout near the village of Laguna. From Jungle Camp Lodge there are 3 hour canoe or kayak expeditions deep into the jungle and down Golden Stream.
Electric Pontoon Boat Safari
In the early morning and late afternoon, the best times for wildlife and bird watching, our expert guides will take you in an electric pontoon boat out on the river. You’ll see Howler monkeys, tapirs, wild pigs and a colorful array of birds along the riverbank.
Spotlight River Trip (Night Time)
The jungle never sleeps and our Spotlight River Tour will let you catch a glimpse of its busy nocturnal wildlife. You’ll go out in the evening in an electric pontoon boat with our guides who will shine a spotlight on the creatures of the night.
Bird Watching and Nature Viewing
Golden Stream and its side creeks are excellent for birding and wildlife viewing and our local guides will take you to some of the best sites in Belize.
Swimming
Swimming opportunities abound and are often built into many of our tours. Various locations include Blue Creek Cave’s swimming hole and Rio Blanco Falls with its deep pool.
