Lamanai Archaeological Site
Lamanai the longest occupied of any Maya sites in Belize means submerged crocodile and the river and surrounding lagoons have many. Spend the morning touring the ancient central core of the site. Enormous masks cut from limestone blocks, adorned with a headdress shaped like a crocodile, decorate the Masked Temple. Near the center of the ceremonial zone, Lord Smoking Shell built a massive temple rising 33 meters above the river bank. The largest ball court marker ever found sits in one of the smallest playing areas. Lunch back at the lodge. Sunset Cocktail Cruse in the late afternoon.

Day 4
Lamanai To Chan Chich
Early morning will find you scanning the reed beds of the New River in one of our riverboats as you search for some of the bird and reptile species that inhabit the area. Return to the lodge for lunch and afternoon transfer by vehicle for the 3-hour ride to the next lodge.

Day 5
Laguna Seca & La Milpa
Take a very early morning excursion to Laguna Seca Birding Habitat for great birdwatching or take a morning horseback ride. Back to the lodge for a late breakfast. After breakfast we head out for a tour of La Milpa Archaeological site and the Gallon Jug area. After dinner take a night wildlife walk.

Day 6
Chan Chich Lodge to Xuanantunich & Chaa Creek
This morning we journey on back roads south, through a vast stretch of jungle and the Yalbac Hills, towards the Cayo District. Lunch in San Ignascio Town. After lunch a stop at Xunantunich Archaeological Site. El Castillo rises 42 meters and the summit was beautifully decorated with large stucco friezes representing the Central Axis of the Maya World and symbols associated with astronomy and ideology.

Day 7
Tikal
Early morning departure for a full day trip into Guatemala and a visit to the spectacular Maya Archaeological Site of Tidal. There is nothing like Tikal with its pyramids towering above the green jungle canopy to catch the sun. Full day trip.

Day 8
Natural History Museum & Transfer to Mountain Pine Ridge Area
This morning visit Chaa Creek Natural History Center and go horseback riding or walking within their private nature reserve. Lunch at the Lodge. Then transfer by vehicle for the 2 hour ride into the Mountain Pine Ridge and Francis Ford Coppola’s, Blancaneaux Lodge.

Day 9
Caracol Archaeological Site & Rio On Pools
Travel deep into the jungle to the archaeological site of Caracol. A massive site with the construction of monumental architecture, hieroglyphic inscription and a complex social and religious system. The city covered an area of 100 square kilometers with a population of over 100,000. Causeways connected the city and its vast acropolis. Sky Palace is the tallest Maya construction in Belize. On the ride back, stop for a refreshing dip in Rio On Pools.

Day 10
Barton Creek Cave, Hummingbird Highway & Southern Belize
Today we head south, but before leaving the western slope of the Maya Mountains, we take a journey into the underworld of the ancient Maya. Visit Barton Creek Caves which are living museum where artifacts that were left inside by the ancient Maya can be viewed in their original contexts. Lunch. Three to four hour dive south over the Maya Mountain Divide and into the heart of today’s modern Maya and their ancient ancestors.

Day 11
Maya Ruins & Today’s Modern Maya Homeland
Spend a full day touring remote Maya sites and visiting the largest indigenous Maya population in Belize. Nim Li Punit (Big Hat) a small but significant site with many carved monuments including the second largest in the Maya World. Lunch. Then off for a journey through local villages on the way to Lubanntun (Place of Fallen Stones), a major trading center of the region. Then on to Blue Creek Cave for lunch and some cave exploration and cool afternoon swim.

Day 12
Wildlife Center, Golden Stream & Jungle Camp Lodge
In the morning visit Ballum Na Lodge (House of the Jaguar) that includes a jaguar exhibit, Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and Scarlet Macaw Captive Breeding Program. Lunch. Afternoon departures to Jungle Camp Lodge, from Fig Tree Landing where you and your Maya Guide begin the 3-hour canoe or kayak expedition deep into the southern Belizean jungle and down the pristine Golden Stream. Electric Boat Safari - Canopy Platform
Take a dawn electric pontoon boat safari on the river, where many species are up early feeding and moving about. Return to the lodge for late morning breakfast. Take the middle of the day and relax. Late afternoon nature-walk on Ceiba Loop Trail and a visit to our Tree Canopy Platform suspended in a giant Ceiba tree 100’ above the forest floor. Watch the sun set and parrots come to roost for the night. After dinner take a short night walk and then set out by electric boat on the river watching with spot light for the many mammals and bird species of the jungle.

Day 14
Jungle Camp Lodge To The Caribbean
Depart in the early morning by electric boat for the trip down river and towards the coast passing through several distinctive ecosystems along the way. Watch for Howler Monkeys and parrots as the sun rises over the jungle river. As we get towards the coast explore small side creeks and mangrove habitat, nesting areas of White Ibis, Roseate Spoonbills and many wading bird species. Transfer to our marine boat for the 30-minute trip to Moho Cay Lodge. Late lunch. Have the afternoon free to relax on our beautiful white sand beach enjoying the fresh sea breezes and sunshine.

Day 15
Port Honduras Marine Reserve
Take a full day excursion within the Port Honduras Marine Reserve, heading first to the Snake Cay Group, for a morning of swimming, snorkeling and island habitat birding. Pelicans, Boobies, Frigate birds, Plovers, Sandpipers, Gulls and Turns are abundant in a variety of species. This group of islands also serves as a resting stop for many migrants coming across the open ocean from South and Central America on the way north. Head back to Moho Cay Lodge for lunch. In the afternoon explore the many cays and mangrove coastline where the elusive manatee can sometimes be spotted, great birding, watch for Morlet’s crocodile, sea turtles and sea rays. Day 16
Depart Moho Cay Lodge and Fly North to Placencia
Depart in the morning by marine boats for the 30 minute trip to Punta Gorda. Board Tropic Air for the 15 minute flight to Placencia.. In the afternoon relax on the beach or around the pool. Barrier Reef
